Boom Boom Boom goes the town! I am finding it so surreal to drive through town anymore, and be behind dozens and dozens of semis and trucks with trailers. For the past few years, the town has gotten busier and busier, but this year is the all time busiest. My kids will point out various things like the long line of truck traffic, or a ambulance zooming past, and I will say "yah that's not normal." But in reality, its our new normal I guess. Its also our new normal to not go to Walmart because the shelves are empty, dirty, and you wait more than 25+ mins in line. We don't go through fast food drive thrus because it's much faster to just make dinner at home. We rarely go out for dinner at a cafe, because once again, its just easier to eat at home. You don't just see customers cars parked in the Walmart parking lot, you see people living in the Walmart parking lot, in their campers, cars or trucks. Last summer we had a "tent city" in an all time popular city park. People are paying more than double for rent in a 1980's apartment complex than we pay for our home monthly mortgage. Our children's classrooms are bursting at the seams, and more and more kids enroll each week it seems. We used to hear sirens during the 1st Monday of every month for "testing." Now we hear them every day racing out to an accident or fire. Horses grazing in a pasture used to make the front page of the paper, now its filled with raising rents, accidents, burglary, or worse. It's definitely not the town I grew up in anymore, but it is the town my kids are growing up in. So I drive a lot slower, have a lot more patience, and do a lot of online shopping. I enjoy cooking at home, and I welcome the new people I meet. I am also thankful for the house we live in, the business we have gained, and our family here that still makes Williston HOME.
I just really hope in 5 to 10 years that I can be pulling into a Target parking lot, or Old Navy, or an Olive Garden...it is a BOOM after all. please...
